As I said in the previous post I’m in a 7 days detox with my friend Sarah and yesterday we went to an Arms & Abs class at Barry’s Bootcamp  in West London.

What is it?

Barry’s is the original high-intensity work out. It burns up to 1,000 calories in one class (!!!), tones muscle, maximizes fat loss, and increase your metabolism, so you actually burn calories even after class is over.

How to book the classes

The class you can book through their website. An individual class costs 22 pounds but they also make packages for more classes at cheaper prices. On the site, you choose the place where you want to start the class (on the treadmill or in the floor). I’ve done the experience of both and I recommend that if it’s your first time you choose to start on the treadmill.

The Atmosphere

The studio we went to was the one in West London. As soon as you open the door, you go down the stairs and check in on your class. The ladies’ room is beautiful, but not so big  which gets a little too crowded if you want to use the bathroom as soon as the class is over.

The room where you have the class is all dark with red lights, which is really cool because you do not feel intimidated doing the exercises with someone watching you, you know what I mean?

They also sells some smoothies which is wonderful for you to drink post workout. It has several options and flavors.

Arms & Abs class Review

Level of difficulty: intermediate / advanced

The class began at 5:30. Sarah and I were pretty nervous not knowing what to expect. I was not very well off the stomach (due to my work schedule, I had eaten just before the class, which is not ideal !!). The instructor seemed to be very friendly (they all are) and as my friend was there for the first time, she had to go through an induction about how the class works and everything she needs to know.

Tip: If you are going there for the first time, you have to arrive 10min before the class starts to have this induction otherwise you can not attend class

We started on the treadmill, our position was T-5 and T-6.

The playlist is really cool and motivating, keeping pace with the class. The instructor was super fun. He uses a microphone and has to talk to the people on the floor and treadmill at the same time. I do not know if it’s just me and Sarah but we just could not understand completely what we were meant to do because he spoke very fast and it was all a bit confusing in the beginning.

After you sweat loads on the treadmill and run like never before, it’s time to switch positions and go to the floor where you will use dumbbells to do the exercises. These are very basic exercises but very intense and with lots of repetitions.

Because everything happens very quickly during the lesson, the instructor does not explain how the exercise should be done, which is negative for people with little knowledge in this fitness world. He only tells you the name of the exercises and you have to know how to perform them correctly since the instructor is not there to correct you if you are doing something wrong.

Another thing that, as I am Personal Trainer, I think they should do a bit more warming up before the workout starts. From what I’ve seen there was no proper warm-up, which for me is mega-important before any training.

I loved the playlist, and how they play with the red lights. When it was time to rest, for example, they would raise the lights and when it was time to start the workout again, they would turn it off which totally changes the environment.

Although it was arm & abs class, I found that they focus much more on the arms. There were hardly any abdominal exercises, and the ones they had were super simple and fast, you know?

When the class is over you clearly have a super high heart beating, sweating like never before and with that wonderful feeling caused by the endorphin effect so…it’s time for stretching! I found the post-stretching movements super appropriate. We stood there for about 10 minutes taking a deep breath and moving slowly.

Post Workout Smoothie

They make several different types of shakes and cost only 5 pounds each.

Conclusion

I think Barrys is extremely famous for a reason, right? They are great at what they do and make you exceed your limits during class. Of course it all depends a lot on the instructor but Barry’s instructors will usually be very friendly, beautiful and extremely motivated to make you burn as many calories as possible during the classes. As a friend, if you are a beginner and would like to take a class at Barrys I would tell you to take it easy and follow your own pace. As a Personal Trainer I would love to be an instructor and be part of the Barrys team as I believe they do a wonderful job.


AULA DE BRAÇO E ABS NA BARRYS BOOTCAMP

Como disse no post anterior eu estou na minha semana detox com a minha amiga Sarah e ontem nós fomos para uma aula de Braços & Abs na Barry´s Bootcamp aqui em Londres.

O que é?

Para quem não sabe, Barrys é um bootcamp super famoso aqui fora, onde as aulas duram 1 hora. É uma aula que é dividida entre 50% esteira e 50% funcional. Esse bootcamp alega que você consegue perder até 1000 calorias por aula! E realmente, as aulas são MUITO intensas.

Não é a primeira vez que vou em uma aula lá mas era a primeira vez da minha amiga. Nunca tinha tentado ir pra aula de abs e braços, então eu estava bem ansiosa.

Como reservar a aula:

A aula você consegue reservar através do site deles. Uma aula individual custa 22 libras mas eles também fazem pacotes para mais aulas com preços mais baratos. No site, você escolhe o lugar onde quer começar a aula (na esteira ou na parte funcional). Eu já fiz a experiencia dos dois e eu recomendo para que se for a sua primeira vez que você escolha começar na esteira.

O estúdio

O estudio que fomos foi o de West London. Assim que voce abre a porta, você desce as escadas e aí faz o check-in da sua aula. O banheiro feminino é  muito bonito porém não é tão grande quanto de academias normais o que fica um pouco cheio demais se você quer usar o banheiro assim que acaba a aula.

A sala onde se tem a aula é toda escura com luzes vermelhas, o que é muito legal pois você não se sente intimidado em fazer os exercícios com alguém te olhando, sabe?

Lá também vende alguns smoothies que é maravilhoso para você tomar de pós treino. Tem várias opções e sabores.

Eles também vendem barrinhas cereais e outras coisas saudáveis por lá.

A AULA DE ABS & BRAÇO

Nivel de dificuldade: intermediario/avançado

A aula começou as 5h30. Eu e a Sara estavamos bem nervosas sem saber o que esperar. Eu não estava muito bem do estomago pois devido ao meu horario de trabalho, eu tinha comido a pouco tempo (o que não é ideal!!). O instrutor parecia ser muito simpático (todos eles são) e como a minha amiga estava lá pela primeira vez, ela teve que  passar por uma introdução sobre como a aula funciona e tudo mais.

 

Shake pós treino

Eles fazem vários tipos de shakes diferentes e custam 5 libras cada.

Conclusão

Eu acho que a Barrys é extremamente famosa por um motivo, né? Eles são ótimos no que fazem e te levam a superar os seus limites durante a aula. Claro que tudo depende muito do instrutor mas os instrutores da Barry´s serão normalmente muito simpáticos, lindos, malhados e com motivação extrema para te fazer queimar o maximo de calorias possível durante as aulas. Como amiga, se você é iniciante e gostaria de fazer aula na Barrys eu te diria para ir com calma e seguir o seu próprio ritmo. Como Personal Trainer eu adoraria ser uma instrutora e fazer parte da equipe Barrys pois acredito que o trabalho deles é maravilhoso.
